How to Fix a Relationship

Don’t you just hate it when a relationship fails? I mean you work real hard to make everything work just right and then this happens.

Oh, I’m sorry, my last blog was Kiss and I guess you thought I was writing about Love.

Well in a way I am, I love Genealogy and want to get the family tree relationships to work out.

But I am having relationships problems as slide 1 of 41 will show.

001

001

Somehow in creating the tree I ended up with two (2) fathers and a son who is not in the main branch.

002

002

I could remove the one father but then the son would also be deleted.

003

003

or I could remove the other father but then the five (5) children would be deleted.

004

004

But there is a solution and the first thing I do is check to see the up line. If I am to remove someone I have to make sure others don’t get removed along with them. In this case neither of the fathers has an up line so I can proceed.

005

005

We will first move Albert from one father to the other; fix the relationship.

006

006

We want Albert to be part of the larger family and it is easier to move him than to move each of the five other children.

007

007

We mouse over Albert’s picture and get a panel where we can click on Albert’s profile page button.

008

008

And we bring up his Profile page.

009

009

Here on his profile page we make a note of who is listed as his father.

010

010

We want to EDIT the relationship.

011

011

So when the edit page comes up guess what we select

012

012

we click on relationships

013

013

We now have the relationships page

014

014

and we see who is listed as the father.

015

015

we first want to add an alternate father

016

016

This brings up a screen where we could type in new information but we already have a father

017

017

So we Select from list

018

018

and a list of all the people on the tree comes up.

019

019

lucky for me that this is a small tree; we find the father we want to add

020

020

Since I wrote down the names I know what I have to do

021

021

I will Select Spence, William

022

022

and we get the relationships page again but now Albert has two fathers.

023

023

We can now remove one of the fathers

024

024

and we know that William Benjamin Spence has to go, so we hit Remove

025

025

and we get this panel telling us that we are just removing the person

026

026

We say OKAY! and get taken back to relationships page

027

027

and now Albert has only one father on the relationships page

028

028

and we are DONE with this part of the relationship problem.
We could stay on this page and make other changes if we wanted to but since all we wanted to do was change the relationship we hit done.

029

029

We are now back on Albert’s profile page.

030

030

and we see that the new father is listed

031

031

but we want to see his family tree to make sure

032

032

And so we see he is now part of the large family under one father

033

033

We can now go ahead and delete the second father who shouldn’t be there.

034

034

so we mouse over his picture and get this panel

035

035

and go into quick edit

036

036

and we get this panel which allows us to do stuff

037

037

but all we want to do is delete him

038

038

again we are given a second chance to change our minds

039

039

but we know we what him gone so we hit OK

040

040

So now we see that we have fixed the bad relationship

041

041

We went from the messy relationship to a nice clean one.

Now that wasn’t so hard was it?

It sure beats having to buy flowers and go through a big make up scene.

I hope that you will be able to fix your troubling relationships using these HOW TO steps.

Thank You.
